Two Heads are Better Than One

Sun Microsystems Acquires SeeBeyond Software and StorageTek

 

These two acquisitions compliment Sun Microsystems in a way never seen before; Sun hopes to stream line its integration services with SeeBeyond Software and will insure this new integration of data is secure with StorageTek.

SeeBeyond Software

Seebeyond Software was officially acquired by Sun August 25, 2005, this acquisition will provide a "end-to-end solution for integrating legacy application s with new composite applications with minimum fuss".  The software offered by SeeBeyond Software is supported by JAVA, so in a way Sun has already been involved with SeeBeyond for years.  This company's solutions are centered around making a smooth transition between phasing out overlap applications and implementing new software.  At their website www.seebeyond.com you can read more about their services and how Sun plans to utilize them.

StorageTek

In June Sun Microsystems and StorageTek have joined forces to bring their customers a range of products and services to manage data and identity information securely.  Together they will be the  new global leader in network computing and data management with annual revenue in the billions.  This will position Sun Microsystems to manage their customers privacy issues more effectively.  For more information visit www.sun.com .

Sun Fire x64 Services

Sun Microsystems launched new enterprise-class servers this week.  These servers increase performance, reduce power consumption, are more compact and the Sun Grid Rack System accelerates grid implementation and deployment time.  Also, announced is a System Service Plan for Microsoft Windows Server which offers a number of benefits to x64 users to include operating system support and a single contact for management for different operating systems.  Below is an outline of the 3 models of the x64 server family:

bullet Sun Fire x2100 is a compact single rack unit including Solaris 10 OS, an AMD Opteron Processor Model 146 and 512MB of memory.
bullet Sun Fire x4100 is a single rack unit including Solaris 10 OS, an AMD Opteron Processor Model 246, 1GB of memory, 1 power supply unit and one service processor.
bullet Sun Fire x4200 is a double rack unit including Solaris 10 OS, an AMD Opteron Processor Model 246, 1GB of memory, 1 power supply unit and one service processor.

 

JAVA Integration Suite

As of August 25th JAVA's 6th Integration Suite is available.  As the best platform to build Service Oriented Architectures, Web services and composite applications the new suite was the next logical step.  Not only is it the best but it is affordable, which is music to developers ears.  Sun Still plans to have support from other platforms on the new suite such as Solaris, Microsoft Windows, HP-UX, IBM AIX, Rec Hat, SuSe, IBM ZOS, IBM WebSphere and BEA WebLogic. 

Also, 90 days from August Sun will provide a detailed roadmap of what is to come from the 6th edition to JAVA Integration Suite.  Some high profile companies, such as HVB Americas, Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA, BT Global Services and Emerson, are praising the JAVA Integration Suite and are anxious to implement in their company.
