Sun Developer Conference NEWS

From: www.sun.com

It is clear from Sun Microsystems press releases on June 29, 2005 that mobile technology is taking a leap with JAVA technology.  Sun and NTT DoCoMo, Japan’s largest mobile operator, have joined forces to “deliver next-generation mobile data services platform” with JAVA technology as its base for operation.  It is codenamed “ * (star) Project” and the hopes are it will out innovate and insure more security than DoCoMo can currently offer customers.

Also, Toshiba and Sun have teamed up once again using JAVA for cell phones to be sold by Vodafone, the world’s largest mobile operator.  Sun helped Toshiba tailor its new 902T 3G, available in Japan since March 2005, to fit Vodafone’s requirements.  This technology out performs and provides a unique experience compared to other products.

Storage Solution by Sun

From: www.sun.com

Project Honeycomb started because of the lack of affordable, high availability, scalable storage.  This solution was developed based on pages of customer reviews individually assessed by 20 storage experts with the ability to make quick decisions, design with simplicity and deliver a product that pleases the customer.  Specifically it manages “large collections of reference data” at relatively low cost with simplicity designed in the installation and management and the ability to grow over time with ease.  As the storage capacity is added “more processors join the cluster to work parallel on search, retrieval, scrubbing and data rebuild tasks”.
