Microsoft Partners with Alcatel

A deal was signed last week between Microsoft and Alcatel, a telecom company, to allow users to make calls from their computers. 

 

 and Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM),for larger companies.  The free tools will only work with Windows OS and only with Microsoft Applications.

   A public Microsoft Web-based patch download site and a replacement for current Windows Update Service (WUS) is expected in 2005.  A true step in the right direction will be integrating WUS with SMS and MOM.  Also,  Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) has a new version in the works, a free vulnerability assessment tool, which will protect from the WUS security issues.

WinOE Set for Beta Testing

WinOE (Windows Orchestration engine) is the workflow code for Windows new workflow software and next generation client and server franchise.  Rumor is the code “is a set of XML schemas, APIs and workflow components for Visual Studio 2005 allowing more business processing on the Microsoft Platform”.

         

Istanbul (codename for next generation IM and communications software) is used to “integrate instant messaging and telephony application”. This front end application for Microsoft Live Communications Server 2005 links to telephones.  Calls are made through PBX or IP PBX phone systems installed on computers.  Some features include view contacts, transfer calls and schedule conference calls.

Microsoft Patch Software Dilemma

The current Patch Software Microsoft offers delivers conflicting data which leaves one wondering if you are patched or not.  In October, 2004 CEO Balmer announced “seven months away from delivering a new corporate patch server, tools to streamline patch installation and one patch download site for all its software.”  Tools will be both free for smaller companies and fee-based, Systems Management Server (SMS), which adds inventory and administrative controls
