Ultrabook is an great alternative to an iPAD type computer with all the features of a Laptop tightly bundled into a ultra small chassis that is 3 lbs or less.

Intel is powering something that is both powerful and beautiful, the Ultrabook. What is that -- you might ask. Well, by definition it must be under 3.1lbs, no more than .8 inches thick, and hold at least 5 hours of battery life or better. Additionally, of the 5 models currently on the market all have a SSD drive option with a variation on each model that SSD drive comes standard ranging from 20GB to 256GB and all have 13 inch screen size except one with an 11 inch. The Intel chips vary by model from i3 to i7 models ranging in speed from 1.4 GHz to 2.9 GHz. Battery power is at least 5 hours with up to 8 hours and as much as 30 day of standby time, which means once the Ultrabook goes to sleep it can retain its charge for 30 days. The Ultrabook comes with all the perks of having a laptop including ultra mobility, media card support, Bluetooth, Windows 7 OS, built in keyboard, touch pad, camera, webcam, speakers and microphone, plus all the connectors and ports you are used to using.Ultrabook image

A few limitations exist because of the slim and sleek construction of the Ultrabook, as with everything there is a trade off for superiority in one area. First, memory the max found is 4GB which is good but could be better especially if running memory intensive programs or if you intend to game. I imagine this is due to the ultra slim motherboard that is required to accommodate such a small chassis. Most models come maxed out, I would prefer being able to upgrade to 8GB. Next, there is no room in the small chassis for an optical drive. Therefore, an external DVD or Blu-ray would need to be purchased separately. This next one is only a negative if you are not a fan of SSD drives, not all models come with the traditional hard drive option the majority are SSD standard. Finally, price -- the base model starts at $899 which is expensive for a base model especially since the only real features that sets this aside from other laptops is the slim and sleek body style, light weight mobility and the SSD drive.

Overall this is a great little machine and great alternative to the iPad computers, with its laptop features (full keyboard), familiar Window 7 OS and powerful hardware. We will all just be waiting for the price to fall into the reasonable realm.
